Team breaks are a popular livestreaming format in the Sports Cards category, where participants purchase spots for specific teams (Pick Your Team, “PYT”) or receive random assignments. Here’s how to conduct team breaks responsibly:
How to Conduct a Team Break
-
Spot Allocation: Use a computer on-screen to perform the team break manually until automated tools are available. Keep track of all spot allocations during the break, as the stream won’t be recorded.
-
Random Assignments: If using randomized assignments, choose a reputable tool (e.g., wheelofnames.com). Ensure the randomizing process is visible on-screen throughout.
Card Distribution
- Every Buyer Must Receive a Card: If a buyer’s team doesn’t yield a card in the break, you must ship at least one card of your choice to them. This ensures all buyers receive something for their participation.
Handling Unsold Spots
-
Plan for Full Participation: Avoid starting a team break unless you have enough viewers to fill all spots. For instance, running a team break with only two viewers isn’t ideal.
-
Unsold Spot Protocols: Refund buyers if unsold spots prevent the break from proceeding. Remaining spots cannot be carried over to future livestreams.
-
No Cancellation of Sold Spots: Sellers cannot cancel spots purchased at lower-than-desired amounts. All purchases are binding.
